The factory broke ground by being the first in Cuba to employ women torcedoras; today around three-quarters of Cohiba's rollers are women. The brand was held back from public sale until 1982. Cohiba uses a third fermentation step on its medio tiempo leaf that no other Habanos brand uses, which is part of what gives it its signature depth and rounded finish.
